The Farm Interpreter leads weekly guided walking and golf cart tours and scheduled special request tours of Rodale Institute from May through October.  The Farm Interpreter develops a detailed knowledge of Rodale Institute’s history, mission and major research projects and meets with key personnel as needed to best inform visitors about the Institute’s ongoing work. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop a strong knowledge of Rodale Institute’s projects and programs to best interact with tourgoers and ensure a positive visitor experience
  • Lead all communication related to the guided tour program, such as managing special requests and coordinating any off-schedule tours, answering questions submitted prior to a tour and following up with answers to questions posed during the tour
  • Will work with the Development team to schedule special tours and issue refunds if tours are cancelled due to inclement weather
  • Other duties may/will be assigned on a case by case and as needed basis
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Superior communication skills and ability to lead a group.
  • Keen interest in learning and ability to understand and communicate scientific information
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Positive and helpful attitude
HOURS:
  • This is a seasonal position, May - October
  • Part-time, highly variable hours (3 to 15 hours/week based on needs)
  • Tours follow a regular schedule:
    • Wednesdays – 2-hour walking tour for 50 ppl max/possible 24 per season
    • Thursdays – 1 hour guided golf cart tour for 12 ppl max/possible 42 per season.
  • Custom, VIP and Donor visits will be scheduled.
    • Occasional Saturdays may be required to accommodate VIP groups and special events
  • Will participate in bi-weekly farm tours on Mondays led by Master Trainer
